So… it seems that there IS some sense in the world. I won’t go into the details, but the story HERE tells the juicy details. I know that the fight is FAR from over, and am watching closely to see what comes next. And rest assured that as soon as I see something really news-worthy, I’ll be sharing it here for your review. Meanwhile, it looks like those of you in the US will at least have it easier getting your e-cigs for the immediate future. Now… who’s working on Health Canada?! Still, I am having no problems getting my personal supplies direct from e-cig.com, in fact my latest shipment is due today or Monday, and was just ordered last Friday. Pretty good turn around still – and getting better.

Just to clear something up…

I just re-read my July 15th post entitled ‘The Deadline Approaches’ and realized that I included some information that is not entirely consistent with the end result. I had spoke of a product that contains NO Propylene-Glycol, when in fact the product I did order DOES contain PG. So I wanted to let you all in on what happened there if you were curious…

I had made my choice of product and had decided to go with the EVOlution from innovapor.com and their ECOPURE solution, which is based on a different formula that contains no PG. However, after having a wonderful conversation with Mark over at innovapor, I learned that he is unable to ship the liquid components to Canada except through FedEx, which would cost almost as much in shipping alone as the entire starter kit from Blu would have cost. I COULD order the solution direct from source over in the UK via the intellicig.com website, and the hardware from Mark, but then I have multiple shipping charges, and unknown wait times. Or, I could order the entire kit minus the very clever Pelican case that Mark offers from the UK site, but the shipping times and the complexity of the process to get the same kit was mounting, and so was my frustration. So… I had been to e-cig.com already, and had placed them in the top five list of starter kits that I liked. But when I saw the YouTube reviews of the E8, I was sold and placed my order.

Now you know a little more about what happened, and how I ended up where I did. Now that I see my order processed already, I’m sure that I’ve made a good choice, and I hope that they are able to deliver on their shipping times so that I can be vaping next weekend. And once again – e-cig.com appear to be the source that supplies a large number of the stores we see popping up almost daily here in North America, and in other places around the globe. They offer branding and other custom packaging options, as well as deep discounts for volume. Who knows… maybe if this all works out, and Canada permit the import of these things some day, I just might take all that money I save vaping and open a store of my own!? The deadline approaches…

For Blu, that great sounding little company that I have supported with positive comments and blog posts for the better part of the past month, I have to say that I’m running out of time and patience. First it was a two week delay… then three, and now we’re coming up on four weeks and still no order, even after the company has been basically shutdown for ten days trying to catch up on their backlog. Here’s my position as of this post… I’ve selected another brand of product. Sure I don’t get the cool Blu pack, and perhaps the cartridges are not as convenient as the Blu ones. But from what I’m reading, this product contains no propylene glycol, and offers a pretty attractive packaging and kit prices. Not QUITE as cheap as Blu either, but as I’ve said in the past, even the BEST product is useless if it’s not able to get to the consumer. So stay tuned – if I don’t see my order flipped to shipped by Friday, I’m pulling my order and placing the new one. If that happens, I’ll be letting you all know more about the product I’ve selected.

And who knows… I may get a basic kit from this other vendor either way to see if they are reliable, and meet the expectations. After all… I have a feeling I’ll need to test at least a few of the many varieties of e-cig that are out there.

A Few more reasons to look forward to e-cigs…

I had a couple of experiences today that made me appreciate the concept of the e-cig even more today. I am, of course, waiting for the arrival of mine but as I was driving around today, I seemed to be more aware of the things that I will NOT experience with e-cigs. Of course, there’s the chemicals, and the smoke, and all of the benefits we’ve already talked about, but this morning I was clearly reminded of the other indirect threats that smoking can put in our paths. In my car earlier, I decided to have a smoke. It was a nice day, but breezy, and I had my windows open of course to release the smoke from my car (not that it really helps all that much). I had to, for a couple of seconds, revert to driving with my knee while I had to use both hands to light a cig. It’s a practice that I’ve done so many times in the past without thought, that I just had to take pause for a moment today and wonder just how often I actually do it. And I didn’t realize the real risks until well after my second or third drag.

Then, a little gust of wind blew ashes and few hot embers down the front of my shirt. One ember even hit my hand on the steering wheel. A moment of panic of course follows while you have to check to ensure that you haven’t got anything burning, and then back to the focus on the road. Or, while it didn’t happen today, I’ve had a few scary moments with entire LIT cigarettes falling from my fingertips and dropping into my lap while zipping down a road filled with other perhaps equally distracted drivers! It actually scared me to think how many times I’ve been lucky to not run into someone during one of those moments.

And of course, again today, the realization that I may be tossing away even more than I had realized in waste. The actual number of drags I pull off a lit cigarette while driving seems to vary from 4 to 6. I think that the other half of each king size smoke is going out the window. And the stupid reflex of lighting up during a short trip, or only a short distance from your destination only to have to crush or discard half of a smoke. As I consider the day today, the entire $9 pack that I consumed, and the situations around each of those, I am quite certain that I wasted no less than $4 worth of product. That’s the equivalent of 2 full days of e-cigs!

So I’d like you to consider what you consume, and think carefully about how much you waste in any given day. If that alone is not enough to make you want to save money on a product that is far less likely to kill you – directly or indirectly – then I’ll be surprised indeed.

More food for thought…

I saw the videos of President Obama signing the Tobacco Bill today. I’m still looking for good information on the actual impact of this Bill, and I’m sure we’ll all be watching to see follow-up reactions in the e-cig world. Here’s hoping that this won’t make it any more difficult to get these products. I have to admit, that in the short time I’ve known about them, I’ve become quite a strong advocate, and have already told a fair number of others that will be watching my progress with great interest, and will hopefully begin to move away from Tobacco as well.
